{"id":2252,"date":"2025-05-21T11:42:55","date_gmt":"2025-05-21T17:42:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/oursask.info\/rm334\/?post_type=notice&#038;p=2252"},"modified":"2026-05-20T15:08:25","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T21:08:25","slug":"sealing-decomissioning-abandonded-water-wells","status":"publish","type":"notice","link":"https:\/\/oursask.info\/rm334\/notices\/sealing-decomissioning-abandonded-water-wells\/","title":{"rendered":"SEALING\/DECOMISSIONING ABANDONDED WATER WELLS"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>RM of Preeceville, No. 334 WELL DECOMMISSIONING CAMPAIGN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All Landowners are Eligible<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please call (306)-783-1696 before July 31, 2026 to sign up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old, abandoned wells are a threat of contamination to our groundwater<br>aquifers and a safety concern to landowners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AWSA has been decommissioning wells since 2009 and have sealed<br>more wells in our watershed than the rest of the province combined!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have an old, large diameter well on your property, contact the<br>AWSA to arrange for its proper decommissioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Groundwater<\/strong>&nbsp;is a critical resource in the Assiniboine River Watershed because approximately 99% of our residents rely on groundwater for their drinking water.&nbsp;<strong>Protection<\/strong>&nbsp;of our aquifers is paramount, and one of the best practices to ensure safe source waters throughout our watershed is the&nbsp;<strong>decommissioning of abandoned wells.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the years, many wells on properties become&nbsp;<strong>abandoned<\/strong>&nbsp;without being properly decommissioned. These abandoned wells<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">are a&nbsp;<strong>hazard to groundwater<\/strong>&nbsp;and a&nbsp;<strong>liability<\/strong>&nbsp;for property owners. Decommissioning your abandoned wells can&nbsp;<strong>increase your property value!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AWSA has experienced contractors that will decommission your well according to the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency standards.
